Our 5-criteria testing protocol

Every product we recommend goes through a strict and identical protocol to guarantee the objectivity of our comparisons. Our tests are designed to reflect real-world usage conditions and cover a minimum period of 6 weeks per product.

1. Ergonomics

We evaluate the quality of lumbar support, armrest adjustment (3D or 4D), seat height, and the ability to maintain a neutral posture over several hours. A good product must adapt to varied body types (160 cm to 195 cm). For desks, we measure the height range, stability at different heights, and smoothness of movement.

2. Comfort

Comfort is tested in real-world conditions: work sessions of 4 to 8 hours, remote working, and traditional office work. We pay attention to fabric breathability, seat firmness, and the absence of pressure points. Our testers use each product for at least 30 hours before forming an opinion.

3. Durability

We check the materials (ABS plastic, aluminium, quality mesh), the sturdiness of mechanisms, and the manufacturer's warranty. A sit-stand desk must support 20,000 up/down cycles without noise. A chair must retain its lumbar support after 12 months of intensive use. We also simulate a maximum load over 72 continuous hours to test resistance.

4. Adjustment

The more adjustable a product, the better it fits your body. We measure the height range, seat depth, backrest tilt, and synchronous mechanism tension. We favour products with a seat height adjustable between 42 cm and 55 cm minimum. For desks, a range of 60 cm to 125 cm is ideal for most users.

5. Value for money

Price alone does not determine quality. We compare the cost per year of use (estimated durability / price) and check whether premium features are genuinely useful. Our best ergonomic chair under £300 proves that you can find excellence without breaking the bank.

Duration and phases of our tests

  3. Intensive evaluation phase (4 weeks): formal tests according to our 5 criteria
  4. Longevity phase (long term): follow-up over 6 to 12 months for the products we keep
